QS 9000 Certified

QS-9000 is an essential quality management system for suppliers of production parts, materials and services to the automotive industry.

Developed by Daimler-Chrysler, Ford and General Motors, QS-9000 was first published in 1994, and later re-issued in March 1998. It is based on ISO 9001:1994 and incorporates additional quality requirements expected by the Big Three.

When the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) published their Fourth Annual QS-9000 Survey in March 1999, they reported an average of more than six percent cost savings. This equates to an average of 8 million dollars per company in the first year. The findings also revealed a:

48% improvement in parts per million defect rates,
38% percent improvement in on-time shipping performance,
23% percent increase in original equipment manufacturer market share among registered companies.

These findings help prove that QS-9000 saves companies money through:

• continual improvement,
• defect prevention,
• reduction of waste,
• and variation in the supply chain.

ISO 9002 Certified

The ISO 9000 standards are produced by an international consensus of countries with the aim of creating global standards of product and service quality. These sets of standards form a quality management system and are applicable to any organization regardless of product, service, organizational size, or whether it's a public or private company.

ISO 9002 is the appropriate standard for organizations that do not design and develop products, since it does not include the design control requirements of ISO 9001. Its requirements are identical aside from that distinction.

FORD Q1

Ford Q1 Second Edition suggests that a supplier's facility or manufacturing site has achieved excellence in five important areas: capable systems, high performance, superior manufacturing process, and satisfied customers. The Q1 mark is considered worldwide as an indication of exceptional quality. The new Q1 Second Edition has improved on former Q1 guidelines. It has been more closely associated with customer satisfaction outcomes. The Supplier Improvement Metrics (SIM) is now directly linked to the Q1 status. Q1 Second Edition incorporates the learning of numerous years of supplier quality deployment with regard to Ford. As a supplier, achieving the Q1 status would be a milestone in the pursuit of quality. Q1 serves the basic function of ensuring that the manufacturing facility performs on time, as well as delivers high quality products for ultimate customer approval.

ISO/TS 16949

ISO/TS 16949 is an ISO Technical Specification. The International Automotive Task Force (IATF), which consists of an international group of vehicle manufacturers, plus national trade associations, wrote ISO/TS 16949 in conjunction with the International Organization for Standards (ISO). This specification aligns existing American (QS-9000), German (VDA6.1), French (EAQF) and Italian (AVSQ) automotive quality systems standards within the global automotive industry.

Together with ISO 9001:2000, ISO/TS 16949 specifies the quality system requirements for the design/development, production, installation and servicing of automotive related products. In addition, there are customer specific requirements that are required by individual subscribing vehicle manufacturers.

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted specification for an Environmental Management Standard (EMS). It specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects and impacts of products/activities/services, planning environmental objectives and measurable targets, implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and targets, checking and corrective action, and management review.
